Should You Do SEO Yourself?

In-House vs. Outsourcing SEO

From time to time, we come across some great reads and want to share them with you. The following is a clear example of this.

SEO, in it’s basic form, is not “rocket science” and one could learn the basic techniques of on-page optimization rather quickly (off-page optimization needs to be left to the professionals).  That being said, it does take a ton of time to do properly and you need the right tools to succeed in this endeavor.  This is why so many companies outsource this ever important part of their business success plan.  Ask yourself these SEO questions.

Their headquarters is located at 400 Meadow Lane Carlstadt, NJ 07072.  They can be found by the big yellow sign that says “SAFES.”  Please visit their newly designed website www.lackasafe.com, but also use www.newjerseysafes.com for the ease of their fellow New Jersey residents.

Does your site need a redesign?

You can spend all of the money in the world on PPC and “organic” SEO campaigns.  If people don’t like what they see when they come to your site, it won’t matter how much you have spent on these campaigns.  People want to be “wowed” the second they come to your site.  They want to be able to refer your site to others, but they won’t if it doesn’t have the information they need from the start.  So how can you do this?

For the most part, the good news is that you don’t have to start from “square one”.  You will, however, need to re-evaluate how you communicate your message.  You want to find an easier, simpler, and more effective presentation for your message.  Let us evaluate your current site and talk about some economical quick changes that can make a big difference in your site’s traffic.  You would be amazed at what some small “call to action” changes to the site will make.  People are out there looking and they want to stay on your website…let them.

The Myth of the Metatag

Most website owners are savvy enough to know about metatags.  More specifically, the Keywords Metatag.  The problem with this is that site owners often believe that the Keywords tag is an important factor in how their website ranks in search engines.  The more keywords, the better the rankings, right?

Wrong.

The very problem with metatags is that everyone knows about them.  If every site owner is trying to optimize their site by adding metatags, who gets the top ranking?  When everyone caught on to metatags (several years ago) Google and the other search engines had to come up with new ways to decide top rankings.  The fact is that SEO has grown beyond, and more complex than, metatags.

In fact, with the exception of the Title Tag, metatags are of very little importance.  Metatags need to be reinforced by something else.  It is only when combined with proper page content, linking structure and back-linking that metatags play a role in search engine ranking.

When the keywords and description match up with page content and links, Google and other search engines can view the site as being consistent or ‘honest.’  That is, a site that is developed without keyword stuffing or attempts to fool the engines and visitors.  This ‘honesty’ can play an important role in search engine ranking, but simply cramming more keywords into your metatags is likely to have no effect (or even worse, a negative impact) at all when it comes to search engine positioning.

Pay-per-Click or “Natural” Search Engine Optimization?

Would you rather “lease” your advertising or “purchase” your advertising? I ask this because I saw a post last week that made me think.  It made me think how we at Tracemedia can easily explain the difference between PPC and SEO.  Many business owners out there don’t realize the difference.

Have you ever leased a car?  After paying all the initial fees/costs upfront, you get the keys to your “leased” car. There’s an immediate feeling of ownership and pride.  This is all great, except for one thing…you don’t own the car. The second you stop paying the lease, you have to turn it in or the dealership comes and gets the car.  Not too much fun really.  Now you just have memories of that awesome car you had.  It was fun while it lasted.  This is PPC. The click volume you may have received earlier has ended and noone will know you existed.

Now imagine that you’ve set your sites on your dream car.  You saved enough money to put some money down and establish a payment plan to “OWN” the car.  It’s exciting.  You are so proud to tell people that this is your car.  You ride around town showing it off.  You spend a lot of your time detailing your car and making sure that it is always just right.  After all, it is “YOUR” car and after you finish the payment schedule on the car, you will OWN your car.  This is like “Natural” SEO.  Once you establish your high rankings, you own them and no one can ever take those aaway from you.  Maintenance is needed from time to time, but the high-rankings you established are yours to keep.  Sure, the cost seems abit too much to invest in, but the payoff of owning your connections and high rankings is worth it.
